Weekend to offer outdoor activities

This weekend, kite flying, a car and bike show and roadside cleanup initiatives will bring the community together outdoors.

The first North Mountain Vineyards Kites Flying, Gliders and Hot Air Balloon Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday

Weather permitting, kite flying will begin at 11 a.m. Gliders will arrive about 2 p.m. and the hot air balloon launch will begin between 5 and 6 p.m.

Also the vineyard will release its new wine Gruner Veltliner, an Austrian Varietal. It will be served in the tasting room all afternoon with traditional Zwiebelkuchen.

Admission is free, and participants are invited to bring their own kites. Wine tastings will be $5, and Swover Creek Farms will provide kielbasa and sausage. Rhonda and Doug will perform live music from 2 to 5 p.m.

Also Saturday, the annual Strasburg Community Cleanup Day will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Sponsored by Hometown Strasburg, organizers ask teams from town organizations, businesses, churches and youth groups to take part. Contact event leader Larry Haun at 465-3455 to register for a road assignment and supplies.

The Relay for Life will sponsor a Car/Bike Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Front Royal Moose Lodge. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the event will include a deejay, food, drinks, raffles and cornhole games. Plaques will go to Best in Show and the top 20.
