Events around the area this weekend will spark fun and excitement with dancing, singing, crafts and history.
Dancing Downtown will take place in Front Royal from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the gazebo area on Main and Chester streets. Deejay Mike Bailey will present an “American Idol”-style singing competition Front Royal Idol during the evening.

In Middletown, The Master Gardeners of the Northern Shenandoah Valley will present the 10th Annual GardenFest at Belle Grove Plantation, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Classes on canning and preserving, composting and firewise landscaping will take place, with garden and craft vendors available to talk about their products and wares. For more information, call 540-869-2028.
In Winchester, “The Gathering of Civil War Eagles” will present an interactive “first-person” educational seminar hosted by 50 members of “Lee’s Lieutenants” and the “Federal Generals Corps.”
A phenomenon beyond any other Civil War educational opportunity, it will express to spectators the thoughts, emotions and experiences of battle-hardened generals who felt the brunt of the war.
