Area families in search of an escape from continued summer heat will find cool evening music, indoor shows and even outdoor entertainment this weekend.

Musical events will include the Woodstock ROCS outdoor concert and Gazebo Gatherings, both of which continue their summer series at 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is free.

Winchester Little Theatre’s second children’s theater play this summer, “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr.” will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, with two performances a day through next weekend. Show times will be at 2:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Friday, and at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets are $10 each. Online sales for July 20 are already sold out.

On Sunday, Youth Day will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in Izaak Walton Park, Browntown. Area children age 8 to 14 are invited to attend classes in basic archery and crossbow, hunter safety, basic air rifle and fly casting. Certified instructors will demonstrate evaluating the health of streams by monitoring macro invertebrates.
Sponsored by the Izaak Walton League, the day will include nature walks on the park’s trials. Hot dogs and soda will be available to participants at no cost. A responsible adult is requested to accompany the children. Hats, walking shoes and bug spray are highly recommended. This is a free event for all participants.
