Frederick County Fair starts this weekend

The Frederick County Fair will begin this weekend with pre-fair events before the fair officially opens Monday at the fairgrounds in Clear Brook.

Weekend events will include the Frederick County Fair Open Horse Show at the fair horse arena at 9 a.m. Saturday. Sunday, livestock exhibitors may begin setting up at the barns, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The little, preteen and junior miss Frederick County Fair pageants will begin on the South Lawn stage from noon to 3 p.m.

From 2 to 5 p.m., agriculture and home economics exhibits may be brought to the Whitacre Building, and registration will be open for check-in at the administration building.

Monday to Friday, gates will open at 4 p.m. and rides and concessions will be open at 6 p.m. each night, with a barbecue dinner in the Ruritan Building and evening entertainment also starting at 6 p.m. Buildings housing FFA projects and animals will close at 10 p.m. each night. On Aug. 3 gates will open at 3 p.m., rides and concessions will open at 5 p.m. with a barbecue dinner in the Ruritan Building.

Admission is $6 for adults older than 11, $3 for ages 6-11 and free for children 5 and younger. Senior Citizen's Night allows $3 admission to anyone age 55 and older with ID. Monday, Wednesday and Friday ride all night for $30. For more information, call 540-667-8739 or visit www.frederickcountyfair.com.

Monday: Senior Citizens Night

7 a.m. -- Enter all livestock at the barns before noon. The FFA building will be closed for judging from noon to 6 p.m.
9-11:30 a.m. -- Register for other events at the Whitacre Building
Noon -- Judges luncheon and, in the show barn, the exhibitors' meeting.
6 p.m. -- Bandit Racking and Go-Kart Racing in the grandstand
7 p.m. -- Miss Frederick County Fair Scholarship pageant on the South Lawn stage
7:30 p.m. -- Bubble gum blowing contest on the South Lawn.


11 a.m.-noon -- Day camp with swine, home economics and flowers in the show barn.
4:30 p.m. -- The 4-H and FFA beef cattle and market steer show
5:30 p.m. -- Tiny Miss Frederick County Fair Pageant on the South Lawn stage
7 p.m. -- Box Turtle Derby Race on the South Lawn stage, the Monster Truck Show and Freestyle Moto Cross at the grandstand
7:30 p.m. -- Apple Valley Square Dance Club square dance demo at the South Lawn stage


11 a.m.-noon -- Day camp with a cattle, pet show and other contests in the show barn
3:45-9 p.m. -- Lord Fairfax Food Drive at the fairgrounds gates
4:30 p.m. -- The 4-H and FFA sheep and goat show in the show barn
7 p.m. -- Truck and tractor pull at the grandstand
8:30 p.m. -- John Richards and The Virginians will perform on the South Lawn stage


9:30 a.m. -- Pet show in the show barn
10-11 a.m. -- Day camp with sheep and agriculture and a horse and pageants awards show in the show barn
4:30 p.m. -- The 4-H and FFA market hog show in the show barn
7 p.m. -- Apple pie eating contest on the South Lawn stage and a truck and tractor pull at the grandstand
8:30 p.m. -- Cathy Kerns and The New City Band will perform on the South Lawn stage


9:30 a.m. -- Livestock winners in the senior and junior divisions will compete for title of Supreme Champion in the show barn
11 a.m.-noon -- Day camp with rabbits, poultry, hobbies, photography, fine arts and educational exhibits in the show barn
6 p.m. -- The Frederick County Fair Association special recognition awards in the show barn and the Virginia High School Rodeo Association performance at the grandstand
6:30 p.m. -- The 4-H and FFA market hog, steer, sheep and goal sale grand and reserve champions will be chosen at the show barn
6:30 p.m. -- Christian Lopez and the Joe Taxi Band will perform on the South Lawn stage


6 p.m. -- Demolition Derby at the grandstand
6:15 p.m. -- Hog calling at the show barn
6:30 p.m. -- A pig scramble at the show barn
7:30 p.m. -- The Springfield Exit Band will perform on the South Lawn stage
9 p.m. -- The Mutton Busting contest in the show barn
