Fair to close summer with celebration, celebrity

By Josette Keelor

Beginning Friday and running through next weekend at the fairgrounds in Woodstock, the Shenandoah County Fair's nightly lineup of concerts, lifestyle workshops, history tours and games will bethe finale to a month of county fairs around Northern Shenandoah Valley.

Every night on the BB&T Free Music Stage valley singers will begin performing at 5 p.m., and names like the Eli Young Band and country singer Tate Stevens will keep the music going into the night.

Admission to the fair is $6 for ages 12 and older, $2 for ages 6-11 and free to children 5 and younger. On children's day, Tuesday, children 12 and younger get in free. On Wednesday's senior citizen's day, tickets for ages 65 and older are $3 until 4 p.m. Veteran's day, on Thursday, allows free admission to veterans until 4 p.m.

Courtesy passes for admission to the entire fair are $42. A one-day gate pass is $6. Prices do not include entertainment and concert seating. A weekly pass with grandstand admission is $150.

The fair takes place at 300 Fairground Road, at exit 283 off Interstate 81 in Woodstock. For more information, call 540-459-3867 or visit www.shencofair.com.
