Local film 'Detached' to show at three area theaters

Daily Staff Report

Edinburg teenager Stephen French has submitted his independent film "Detached" to the Virginia Film Festival for consideration, according to a Wednesday press release.

After a whirlwind summer of filming and then editing the film, the movie, filmed mostly in Woodstock, will have three upcoming area showings, the first at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Alamo Cinema and Draft House in Winchester, the second at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Community Theater in Woodstock, and the third at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Family Drive-In Theatre in Stephens City.

"Detached" is a psychological drama about a young widow, Jessie Lacey, played by Woodstock native Allison Shell. Area residents Rich Church, Jeanne Russell, Lisa Mikitarian, Evan Benton and Samantha Strong make up the rest of the cast.

Stephen, 14, also collaborated with composer Ken Pierson to score important scenes in the film. Pierson is a graduate student at James Madison University specializing in composing soundtracks for movies.

Quoted in the press release, Stephen said, "I am so honored that Ken was willing to work with me on 'Detached.' His scoring is incredible and really enhances the film."

Everyone involved in the film, from the actors to the crew, lives in Virginia, except for Strong, of West Virginia.
