Fall is the reason for pumpkin spice season

NEW MARKET — For a great-tasting pumpkin latte, look no further than the Jackson Corner Cafe.
The New Market sandwich and coffee shop has gotten into the spirit of the season with a variety of flavored drinks, including its pumpkin latte, pumpkin iced coffee and pumpkin spice tea.
Its pumpkin latte stacks up notably against the Starbucks version, with one major advantage: they don’t over-roast their beans.
“That’s one of the things I’m careful about when I roast,” said cafe owner Monty Ruckman. “People say to me, ‘it’s not dark enough, it doesn’t have enough oils.’ Well, you gotta be careful because you’re not going to get all the flavors.”
Jackson Corner, which opened in June, offers the five coffees partnered with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation and a handful of single origin beans, stretching from countries such as Costa Rica, Tanzania, Papua New Guinea and Kenya.
Ruckman said he’s planning to add a roaster in the back of the cafe and offer wine tastings by the end of this year.
And if you’re not exactly uppa for some cuppa, the cafe has a line of teas from the Virginia-based Loose Leaf Tea Company, including none other than its pumpkin spice tea.
The Jackson Corner Cafe, located at 9386 S. Congress St., is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
