Alliance hosts Empty Bowl Soup Supper

The Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter will host its 23rd annual Empty Bowl Soup Supper from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21.

The supper, held at Central High School in Woodstock, includes a variety of soups provided by nearby restaurants, about 350 bowls that have been handcrafted and donated by local potters — included in the ticket price — and a silent auction.

Kerry Keihn, program administrator at the Alliance, said 100 percent of the proceeds go to benefit the nonprofit, which helps prevent homelessness in Shenandoah County by providing temporary shelter and supportive services.

“We just turned 25 this month, so it’s almost been around as long as we’ve been in existence,” she said. “It’s our largest fundraiser, and it’s pretty critical after the fire, which we’re still financially recovering from.”

Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for kids 6 to 17 years old.

Tickets are available for purchase at multiple locations, including the Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter office, Woodstock Cafe, Sager Real Estate in Strasburg, Edinburg Mill and Community Store in Basye. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
