Apple Blossom Fest announces theme
WINCHESTER — “Get Your Bloom On!” is the theme for next year’s Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, as announced at a release party Wednesday night.
The 88th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival will be held from April 24 to May 3 in Winchester.
John Rosenberger, executive director of the festival, said it had been a while since the festival used a “real punch right out there” kind of theme.
“I think we thought it was time to go back,” he said. “We had a theme some years back called ‘Get Bloomed!’ with a big exclamation point on a black cover.
“I think we just thought, we’ve tried to hit the elegant side, we’ve tried to hit the artistic side, let’s just go crazy and party, so we decided to do, ‘Get Your Bloom On!'”
The theme mirrors the ’70s rallying cry of “Get your freak on” and Florida Georgia Line’s hit country anthem, “Get Your Shine On.”
“[With] ‘Get Your Bloom On!’ I think anybody would get the ‘It’s time to celebrate,'” Rosenberger said. “I think that message would come through, no matter whether you’re 15 or 85.”
Erik Zimmerman, a graphic artist with White Spider Design, designed the look of the new theme, which depicts neon green and pink blossoms bursting through the block of Futura text.
“We wanted to get back to doing a pop theme,” he said, “something that jumped out at you a little bit.”
He said the neon colors will help draw in a younger crowd to the festival.
“For years, we’ve done something a little bit more soft and subtle,” he said. “We wanted something with a little more excitement this year.”
Recent themes in past years have included “Rhapsody in Bloom,” “Love to Bloom” and “The Land of Pink and Green.”
