Former Red Sox pitcher to visit New Market

Former pro baseball player Daryl Irvine will visit the Valley Sports Connection in New Market next month.

Irvine, a relief pitcher who played for the Boston Red Sox for three seasons from 1990 to 1992, will sign baseball cards at the store from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 6.

Kids younger than 14 can receive a free baseball card that can be autographed by Irvine at the store.

Business owner Cathy Donald said this is the first time they’ve had a professional athlete in the store.

She said Councilman John Blosser helped arrange the event.

She added that fans are welcome to bring any Red Sox merchandise they would like signed by Irvine.

“It’ll be a great opportunity for little leaguers to actually meet a professional baseball player,” she said.

Irvine now lives in Rockingham County.

According to ESPN.com, Irvine’s career stats include 27 strikeouts, a 4-5 record and a 5.68 ERA over 63 innings pitched.

Valley Sports Connection is located at 9395 S. Congress St. in New Market.
