The Woodstock Rotary Club will celebrate its 90th anniversary with a gala event Friday at Massanutten Military Academy.
Some of the club’s many activities over the years include providing college scholarships to local graduates, leadership training for teenagers involved with Rotary’s Interact program at Central High School and Massanutten Military Academy, donating dictionaries to middle school students, and providing benches in town and a shelter with planted trees at the park.
Club members and their families also gather early Christmas Eve mornings to package and deliver food and gifts to the needy, and coats are provided for children at Christmas. There are 72 members in the club.
The club’s largest fundraiser is the annual shrimp and catfish dinner, which will be held this year from 4-7 p.m. April 24 at the Moose Lodge.
Club President Kevin Gutshall commented about the anniversary in a news release: “We are humbled at the thought of local business people and professionals donating time, money and effort to serve the community and the Shenandoah Valley for nine decades.”
