Apple Blossom Festival princesses named

Six area women have been selected to serve as Princesses in the Court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVIII during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival April 24 through May 3:

Lillian Matthews attends the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where she is a third-year student studying biology. She is the daughter of Marianne Matthews and Ed Matthews, both of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Clara Parham, of Richmond, Mary Lou and Maury Matthews, of Auburn, Alabama, and the late Brooks Parham. Lillian is a graduate of John Handley High School.

Kaitlyn Oates attends Lord Fairfax Community College, where she is a sophomore majoring in psychology. She is the daughter of Kathryn and David Oates, of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Patricia and Gerald Canody, of Woodstock, and Melanie and Roger Oates, of Winchester. She is a graduate of Millbrook High School.

Hannah Strosnyder attends James Madison University in Harrisonburg, where she is a freshman majoring in health sciences with a concentration in pre-physical therapy and a minor in business. She is the daughter of Dawn and Eric Strosnyder, of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Mary Jo and Lyle E. Strosnyder, of Winchester. She is a graduate of Millbrook High School.

Lang Sublett attends the University of Georgia in Athens, where she is a freshman. She is the daughter of Meg and Frank Sublett, of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Mary Langhorne Sublett, of Harrisonburg, and the late Margaret Bowling, George Bowling and Sherwood Sublett. She is a graduate of John Handley High School.

J’netta Leigh Sheppard attends Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, where she is a sophomore majoring in human development with a minor in psychology. She is the daughter of Megann and Bruce Sheppard, of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Bernice Sheppard, of Cobourg, Ontario, Canada, and the late Howard Sheppard, Leigh Morrison and Maurice Morrison. She is a graduate of John Handley High School.

Parker Weiss attends Lynchburg College, where she is a freshman majoring in elementary education with a minor in art education. She is the daughter of Joan and Marshall Beverley, of Winchester, and Kristin and Charles Weiss, of Richmond, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Maxine and Vern Kays, of Spokane, Washington, Henry Weiss, of Lynchburg, and the late Olga Weiss. She is a graduate of John Handley High School.

The princesses will participate in the coronation ceremony on May 1 at John Handley High School and ride on the queen’s float in the Grand Feature Parade on May 2.
