Library awarded grant

John Handley High School Library Media Center has been awarded a $1,000 grant to be used in a summer reading program that teams Spanish-speaking newcomers with bilingual- and English-speaking high school students to promote literacy of both languages.

Rising ninth- through 12th-grade students are needed to become volunteer reading camp counselors for at least one or more weeks during the leading program from Jun 8-July 2.

Camp participants will form teams, select  picture books and prepare a  story-hour session that includes bilingual reading of the books, complete with props and costumes. The teams also will plan a music, art or game activity related to their  book.
