School news: WCHS bands

The Warren County High School marching and symphonic bands, under the direction of David Dingess, has been designated a Virginia Honor Band.

In the fall, the band received a Superior Rating in State Marching Assessment held at Patriot High School, previously known as Festival. This was the first time Dingess had achieved this as a band director and the first time the school had achieved this in many years.

On March 25, the school’s Symphonic Band was also able to achieve a Superior Rating for District Concert Assessment held at James Wood Middle School.

While Warren County has achieved the mark of Superior during Concert Assessment before, it had never received a Superior Rating for Concert and Marching Assessment in the same year. Since the band was successful at both concert and marching assessments this year, they were able to capture the honor of being designated a Virginia Honor Band, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon bands by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Association.
