Front Royal to conduct smoke testing of lines
The Town of Front Royal Water & Sewer crew will be smoke testing sanitary sewer lines and storm sewer lines from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from next Tuesday through May 19 in the following areas:
• Warren Park area: Shenandoah Avenue east to Edgemont Avenue and East 13th Street north to East 19th Street;
• VFW area.
Smoke testing is performed to help locate where storm and other surface waters are entering the town’s sewers. Air combined with non-toxic smoke is forced into the sewer main lines to disclose the location of connections and leaks. The smoke is manufactured for this purpose and therefore does not leave stains, nor have an adverse effect on plants or animals.
People who may have respiratory problems may wish to take precautions, such as making sure windows are open for ventilation or leaving the residence while crews are smoke testing nearby.
To help prevent smoke from entering your home, run or pour water into all drains, especially those used infrequently such as floor drains. Evidence of smoke in your home during the smoke testing should be reported to your plumber. The correction of any defects in the pipes and sewer on private property is the responsibility of the owner.
