Group awards scholarships to teachers for degrees

The Shenandoah County Retired Teachers Association has awarded two $1,000 scholarships to teachers pursuing advanced degrees.

Scholarships went to Adina McInturff and Amy Mauck.

McInturff, a math teacher at Stonewall Jackson High School, is completing a master’s degree so that her students can be dual-enrolled with Lord Fairfax Community College.

Mauck, a special education teacher at Strasburg High School, is also pursuing a master’s degree.

The checks were presented by Margaret Figgins, scholarship chairperson.

Money for the scholarships is raised through donations, including donations in honor or in memory of educators.

The group will hold its fall breakfast meeting on Sept. 8 in Woodstock.
