Gail Giles has been named Woman of the Year by the Xi Epsilon Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Under her leadership as president, donations of time or money have been made to the Empty Stocking Fund, Tree of Love, Valley Educational Center for the Creative Arts scholarships, after-prom party, the ALS Foundation (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and Luke’s Backpack. The sorority has also sponsored a family at Christmas and provided two meals for the staff of the Shenandoah County Free Clinic.

At the annual Valentine’s dinner in February, Mona Casteel was crowned Valentine Sweetheart. Other socials include a beginning day tea, Christmas party and Founders Day dinner.

The following members received degrees in April: Ritual of Jewels degree, Debbie Froemel; Preceptor degree, Nancy Carey; Laureate degree, Gail Giles and Jeanne French; Silver Circle, Jeanne French; and Order of the Rose, Gail Giles, Linda Clark and Jeanne French.

Officers for 2015-2016 are Linda Clark, president; Mary Pence, vice president; Shirley Moyers, recording secretary; Laurel Vaughan, treasurer; JoAnn Racey, corresponding secretary; Mona Casteel, extension officer.
