Alms House marker unveiled

The Shenandoah County Historical Society, in partnership with the Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter, unveiled a historic marker commemorating the former Alms House on Sept. 27. The base of the sign is constructed from limestone blocks and handmade bricks salvaged from the ruins of the Alms House, which was destroyed in a fire last year. Unveiling the sign is Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman Conrad Helsley, left, and shelter Director Shelia Orndorff. Courtesy photo
