Family holds surprise birthday party

Ronnie Maley, a resident of Culpeper, was surprised with a birthday party on Oct. 24 attended by close friends and family.

The party was hosted by his two daughters, Aimee Hoffman and Amanda Maley, and his son, Jamie Maley, all of Culpeper.

In attendance were his sister, Rebecca DeCecco, of Linden, and his nephew and great niece, Michael and Chelsea Thorpe, of Front Royal.

His sister, Ruth Maley Kemp, and her husband, Roger, of Greenville, North Carolina, gave a 30-minute tribute presentation with photos, music, animations and narration of Maley’s life throughout the years. A Washington Redskins birthday cake was made by Christine Kauffman, of Culpeper.

Maley is fighting Stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is undergoing treatment at the UVA Cancer Hope Center. Maley’s niece, Lori Thomas, and her husband, Michael, of Ashburn, unveiled a purple T-shirt they designed in acknowledgment of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness “Defy, Fight, Win.”
