Weekend Events

The following are some of the area events that will be held this weekend:

Comedy weekend
Bright Box Theater will host a comedy weekend with three shows at 15 N. Loudoun St., Winchester. Tom Simmons and John Floyd will perform at 8 p.m. today and 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Irwin Loring will serve as host.

Winter wonderland
Take a magical stroll through a winter wonderland light show from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. today through Jan. 8 at Clearbrook Park. Enjoy holiday music, cookies and hot chocolate and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Quilt Museum
The Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a Community Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Potters show
Shenandoah Valley potters will hold a holiday show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Jim Barnett Park, Winchester. Information: 540-662-4946.

Violin concert
The award-winning violin/viola duo Marcolivia, featuring Marc Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff, will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Barns of Rose Hill, 95 Chalmers Court, Berryville.

Sky Meadows
Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane will host a holiday open house from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The historic houses will be decorated in the style of different historical periods, Madeline MacNeil will play music and costumed interpreters will show how residents celebrated the holidays through the decades. Information: 540-592-3556.

Chanticleer Christmas
The Grammy award-winning ensemble Chanticleer will perform ancient hymns, sacred songs, contemporary classics, gospel spirituals and American and European carols at 8 p.m. Saturday at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts, 4400 University Drive, Fairfax.

‘The Nutcracker’
The Gainesville Ballet, featuring American Ballet Theatre’s principal dancers Isabella Boylston and James Whiteside, will perform “The Nutcracker” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas.

MetroStage
“A Broadway Christmas Carol,” a cross between the classic Dickens’ tale and song parodies of 33 Broadway show tunes by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim, will be performed today through Dec. 27 at MetroStage, 1201 N. Royal St., Alexandria.
