Apple Blossom Maids of Honor selected to serve

Four area women have been selected to serve as Maids in the Court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXIX during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival April 22 through May 1.

Mary Armstrong is the daughter of Shawn and Bill Armstrong Jr., of Winchester, and granddaughter of Johnnie Kirk, Toni Sloan and Billy and Sandy Armstrong, all of Winchester, and the late Mary Kirk. A graduate of John Handley High School, she is a freshman at Radford University majoring in criminal justice. Her paternal grandmother, Toni Sloan, was a Maid in 1964 and her father a Page in 1973. Her paternal grandfather, Bill Armstrong, was president of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in 2007 and 2008.

Kristen Larsen is the daughter of Mimi and Larry Larsen, of Winchester, and granddaughter of Joanne Roche of Franklin, Massachusetts, and June Larsen, of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and the late Neil Roche and Larry Larsen Sr. A graduate of Chelsea Academy in Front Royal, she is a freshman at the College of Charleston majoring in international business.

Clare Milburn is the daughter of Diane and Tom Milburn, of Winchester, and granddaughter of Brenta and Donald Poole of Asheville, North Carolina, and Linda and Roger Milburn, of Winchester. A graduate of Sherando High School, she is a freshman at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where she is majoring in sustainable development and minoring in Spanish.

Callie Veach is the daughter of Sabra and Les Veach, of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Betty Ganoe and Thomas Ganoe, both of Winchester, Wanda and Doug Veach, of Petersburg, West Virginia, and the late Dr. June Veach. A graduate of John Handley High School, she is a freshman at Shenandoah University majoring in dental hygiene.

The Maids will participate in the coronation ceremony on April 29 at John Handley High School and ride on the queen’s float in the Grand Feature Parade.
