Hospital to participate in ceremony

Warren Memorial Hospital will participate in the worldwide candle lighting ceremony on Sunday.

Kim Shirley, director of the women’s care center and emergency department, said that The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting Ceremony is a chance for families to come out and remember children and other loved ones they have lost.

“It’s a vigil for the little ones that have passed away,” she said.

This is an annual event that anyone can choose to be involved with. The hospital has been participating in this event for five years now and it’s “our gift to the community,” she said.

Turnout for the last few years has been around 10 to 15 people in the hospital, but she said she is hoping for a better turnout this year.

The candle lighting will take place in the main lobby of the hospital at 7 p.m. It is open to the public.
