Shen-Paco director receives award
Shenandoah Valley Community Residences, of Winchester, presented the 2015 Eleanor S. White Award to K.K. Stroop, executive director of Shen-Paco Industries Inc., a nonprofit community-based agency providing vocational, developmental, educational and rehabilitative services to adults with disabilities in Shenandoah and Page counties since 1974.
In 1991, SVC Residences established the Eleanor S. White Award to recognize outstanding philanthropic support of services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The award’s namesake served as a founding board member 36 years ago. This year’s award was presented at a holiday banquet
Stroop, nominated for the award by 1992 recipient Martha Anne Kennedy, began her career in 1985 teaching basic functional skills to adults with developmental disabilities. She joined Shen-Paco Industries in 1999 and has spearheaded projects such as the Shen-Paco Gift & Thrift Shop that allows reaidents to work and have a location to sell their handmade wreaths and other projects. She was also instrumental in the planning and development of two group homes for the benefit of her workers at Shen-Paco.
