The following are some of the area events that will be held this weekend:
Theatre Shenandoah in Edinburg will present Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” a musical version adapted by Warner Crocker and Steve Przybylski, formerly with Middletown’s Wayside Theatre.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. today and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna will be decorated with over 500,000 lights, a two-story animated fountain and Gingerbread Village from 5:30 to 10 a.m. today and Sunday.

Metrostage will present “A Broadway Christmas Carol,” a delicious cross between the classic Dickens’ tale and uproarious song parodies of 33 of your favorite Broadway show tunes by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim and many more at 1201 N. Royal St., Alexandria.
Performances will be held at 8 p.m. today and 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday.

The Virginia Ballet Company and School will present the classic “Nutcracker” ballet at 6:30 p.m. today and 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday at Ernst Theater on the Northern Virginia Community College campus, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale.

Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg will hold a small works art show and sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 30 at the Historic Carriage House.
