Front Royal teen selected as delegate

Monica Marciano, of Front Royal, has been selected as a delegate to the 54th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program that will be held March 5-12 in Washington, D.C.

Monica Marciano, of Front Royal, has been selected as a delegate to the 54th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program that will be held March 5-12 in Washington, D.C.

The program, funded by the Hearst Foundations, aims to increase young Americans’ understanding of  three branches of government and responsibilities of federally elected and appointed officials.  There are 104 students, two from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity, selected for the merit-based program.

Each student also receives a $5,000 undergraduate college scholarship with encouragement to continue coursework in government, history and public affairs.

Marciano is a senior at Wakefield Country Day School. She is  the school’s Key Club vice president, yearbook editor-in-chief, and co-captain of the basketball and soccer teams. She is also a past U.S. Senate page and attended Virginia Girls State.
