Campaign raises funds for two organizations
The 2015 Chain of Checks campaign sponsored by WINC-FM Radio raised $71,684 for the ChildSafe Center and Blue Ridge Hospice. The campaign’s theme was “Helping Kids Heal.”
According to a news release, the grand total includes pledges from schools, clubs and businesses during a two-day drive as well as from the Chain of Checks golf tournament in October, opening night of Frederick County Parks’ Winter Wonderland, the Clarke County Community Band’s Christmas concert, Front Royal Oratorio’s Christmas concert, Kernstown United Methodist Church’s Symphonic Winds Christmas concert, two movie events at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, an “on-air” auction, the “50 Friends” collection canisters hosted by area businesses and the Match Day Radiothon on Dec. 10-11.
Two checks, each for $35,842, were presented to each organization during the WINC Wake-Up Show at 8:15 a.m. Jan. 28. Barry Lee, founder of the Chain of Checks drive, said, “Year after year, this community and our family of listeners share their hearts and gifts for those in need. They really stepped up to “help kids heal.”
