Card shower

A card shower is planned for Gordon S. Siebert, who will celebrate his 90th birthday Feb. 22. Cards can be sent to 635 Walton Farm Road, Woodstock 22664.


Food distribution

The Strasburg Compassion Cupboard Food Pantry will distribute food from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at 533 Burgess St.

This is a special distribution due to the ice and snow Monday. Information: 465-9476.


Chicken barbecue

The Edinburg VFW Post 2447 will hold a chicken barbecue on Saturday. Chicken will be ready at 10 a.m. for $4 per half.


Heritage Association

The Strasburg Heritage Association will hold its annual meeting and program from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Author and historian Richard Kleese will present the program “Strasburg & the Post-Civil Ware Era-1865 & Beyond.” Discussion will include the time after the war when men returned home, recovery from the devastation of the conflict and federal troops still in the county. Refreshments will be provided.

Appreciation day

Gravel Springs and St. John’s Lutheran churches will host a Healthcare Appreciation Day during worship services on Sunday.

The service at Gravel Springs will begin at 9 a.m. at 1870 S. Pifer Road, Star Tannery. The service at St. John’s will begin at 11 a.m. at 3623 Back Mountain Road, Winchester.

Nurses, physicians, home health aides, physical/occupational therapists, social workers and other individuals in the health care profession are invited to attend to be recognized for their service.

A reception will follow at each church.
