Apple Blossom princesses selected to serve

Five area women have been selected to serve as princesses in the Court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVIII during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival April 24 through May 3. They are:

Ashley Hillyard attends Radford University where she is a freshman majoring in communication sciences and disorders. She is the daughter of Debbie and P.W. Hillyard, of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Connie and Walter Barr and Jo and Paul Hillyard, all of Winchester. She is a graduate of James Wood High School.

Emily Iden is a freshman at Lord Fairfax Community College majoring in general studies with human services. She is the daughter of Stacey and Alex Iden, of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Sandra and Ronald Miller, of Winchester, and the late Mae and Thomas C. Iden, Sr. She is a graduate of John Handley High School.

Ellie Selzer is a freshman majoring in architecture at the University of Illinois School of Architecture. She is the daughter of Rosslyn and Lawrence Selzer, of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Judith Stanton, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Janet and Richard Selzer, of North Branford, Connecticut, and the late Ross Stanton. She is a graduate of John Handley High School.

Maribeth Stotler-Watkins attends Longwood University where she is a junior majoring in public history with a minor in anthropology with archaeology. She is the daughter of Sarah and James Watkins, of Stephens City, and the granddaughter of Deanna Sager, of Stephens City, Richard Stotler, of Winchester, and Marlene Kobert of Austin, Texas, and the late Robert M. Sager and James Watkins Sr. She is a graduate of Sherando High School.

Abby Swartz is a freshman at James Madison University majoring in geographic science. She is the daughter of Jean Swartz and Ben Swartz, of Stephens City, and the granddaughter of Yvonne and Joseph Haney, of Warren, Indiana, Judy Haney, of Auburn, Indiana, and Loretta Swartz, of Winchester, and the late Jim Swartz. She graduated from John Handley High School.

The princesses will participate in the coronation ceremony on May 1 at John Handley High School and ride on the queen’s float in the Grand Feature Parade on May 2.
