R-MA senior receives leadership award

Randolph-Macon Academy senior Jake Branham, of Winchester, has been awarded the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the U.S. Leadership Award in the College Prep category.

Randolph-Macon Academy senior Jake Branham, of Winchester, has been awarded the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the U.S. Leadership Award in the College Prep category.

He was nominated by R-MA president Brig. Gen. David C. Wesley.

Nominees were judged in the areas of leadership, character, service, academics and athletics.

Branham is a member of the National Honor Society and the National German Honor Society and vice president of the National Social Studies Honor Society. He is Operations Group commander, one of the top five positions in the Air Force Junior ROTC program at R-MA.  He also attended Virginia Boys State last summer.

He has earned athletic honors, including varsity letters in cross country and lacrosse. and  has been a member and instructor on the R-MA Color Guard and Drill Team. Last summer he spent two weeks in Peru, building greenhouses, digging ditches for irrigation systems and teaching English in local communities.
