A card shower is planned for Genevieve Kirby, who will celebrate her 93rd birthday on Friday. Following a fall, she is at Envoy of Staunton Nursing Home. Cards can be sent to her in care of the nursing home at 512 Houston St., Room 340, Staunton, VA 24401.
Arbor Day program
The Town of New Market and the New Market Area Library will host an Arbor Day Program at 3 p.m. Saturday at the library. The program, for adults and children, will feature a talk about Arbor Day, stories about trees and drawings to win seedlings and other prizes. The Front Royal Fire 10U Travel Softball Team will hold a BINGO fundraiser Saturday at the Front Royal Moose Lodge. Doors open at noon and early bid play begins at 1 p.m. Minimum purchase of $20.
The Strasburg Dog Owners Group (DOG) will host “Dog Days in the Park” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Strasburg Town Park. The Dog Walk will benefit the Strasburg Dog Park. Each handler is allowed two dogs on the walk. Cost is $20 for the first dog and $5 each additional dog. Registration will be held 10-10:30 a.m. There will also be a bake sale for those who may not want to participate in the walk. Each person will receive an event T-shirt, bottle of water and bandanna for their dog. Extra bandannas available for $3 each. Information: Contact Michelle Warren at 540-325-6749.
Relay for Life
Carolyn’s Live, Laugh and Love Relay Team will host the Miss Rappahannock Relay for Life Beauty Pageant at 10 a.m. Saturday at Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Station. A “Womanless” Beauty Pageant to benefit the Relay for Life Team will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the fire station.
A chicken barbecue will be held Saturday at Tractor Supply in Woodstock to benefit Mt. Calvary. Chicken will be ready at 8:30 a.m.
Zion Christian Church in Maurertown will hold a Great Breakfast Buffet from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday. A free will offering will be accepted to benefit the cemetery fund.
The United Way Rubbermaid Product Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Belk parking lot at Apple Blossom Mall, Winchester. This month’s sale will benefit the Heritage Child Development Center.
A Dedication of the Corhaven Graveyard in Quicksburg will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The graveyard is a slave cemetery recovered from its abandoned state. The Virginia Cooperative Extension will host four backyard woods workshops for owners of up to 10 acres of woodland to become better stewards of their property. “The Woods in Your Backyard: Learning to Create and Enhance Natural Areas Around Your Home” will include topics and techniques of planning and implementing various land management concepts and tools. Cost is $30 per person and includes materials and lunch. Dates and locations for the workshops are:

The Shenandoah Garden Club of Woodstock will hold a plant sale 9 a.m.-noon, or until all the plants find a home, Saturday in the Rite Aide parking lot at the intersection of U.S. 11 and Reservoir Road. Information: 540-459-7377.
The Strasburg FFA will hold a bedding plant sale 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays, April 30, May 7 and May 14, and 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 5 and 12, in the greenhouse located beside the school’s football field. Products include flowers, hanging baskets and vegetable plants. All proceeds will go to support activities of the FFA and horticulture programs. The New Market Shockers Baseball team will host a Longaberger Basket Bingo on Saturday at the New Market Fire Department. Doors will open at 10 a.m. with games starting at 11 a.m. Advance tickets are $20 or $25 at the door. All proceeds will go the the team for the 2016 season. Information: 540-908-6454.
The Strasburg Christian Church will host Bingo 5-9 p.m. Saturday. Food will also be available.
St. Luke Brethren Church will hold a chicken barbecue and bake sale Saturday to benefit the church building fund. Chicken will be ready at 9 a.m. for $4 per half.
Tea for Two
Handley Library will host Tea for Two at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. May 7 for ages 7-12. Dress up and bring your favorite adult and a doll or stuffed animal for an afternoon of tea and refreshments.
