The Rotary Club of New Market will sponsor the “Up the Creek”‘ 5K Race on May 14 on the Creek Course at the Shenvalee Golf Course. Registration will be 6:45-7:45 a.m. at Shenvalee with the race starting at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $20 prior to May 9 and $25 after May 9. Proceeds will benefit such projects as the New Market Food Pantry, BSA Troop 117, Stonewall Jackson Prom night and International Polio Plus. Samuels Public Library will host a three-part lecture series by Ben Glenn 6:30-8 p.m. May 3, 10 and 17. Glenn will explore the art of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist and others from the Pop Art counterculture phenomenon of the 1960s. Advances registration is required. The New Market Area Library will hold the following story times in May. This will be the last month for children’s story times until September because the summer reading program will run June 16-Aug. 11.
May 5, 10 a.m. – Books and Babies for children 3 and younger. Theme is “Mother May I?”
May 20, 10 a.m. – Preschool story time for ages 3-5. Theme is “Remembering.”

Warren County Parks and Recreation will offer Tiny Tykes Play Day 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 3-Sept. 1 at the Warren County Health and Human Services Cafe. Warren County Parks and Recreation will host Senior Gaming for residents 55 and older 10 a.m.-noon Mondays, May 2-Aug. 29 and 3-5 p.m. Fridays, May 6-Sept. 2 at the Warren County Community Center. Studies show playing games is healthy for the mind and body and may help present Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. There is no charge or pre-registration for this drop-in program.
