Local students awarded scholarships

Three area students have been selected as scholarship winners by MidAtlantic Farm Credit, the company announced in a recent news release.

The winners are:  Raines, of Gore,

Bethany Gochenour, a freshman at Clemson University studying agriculture education. She was awarded the $2,000 scholarship. She is the daughter of Jeff and Kim Gochenour, of Lebanon Church.

Jared Arkfeld, a senior at James Wood High School.  He plans to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute to study chemical engineering and mathematics. He was awarded the $1,500 scholarship. He is the son of Eric and Susan Arkfeld, of Clear Brook.

MichaelaRaines, a senior at James Wood High School, She plans to attend Lord Fairfax Community College in the fall. She was awarded the $1,000 scholarship. She is the daughter of Ronald and Vickie Raines, of Gore.

MidAtlantic Farm Credit offers scholarships to high school seniors or college students enrolled in a two- or four-year program. Applicants or their parents or guardians must be Farm Credit members to be eligible. Selections are based on the applicant’s record of academic success and participation in extracurricular activities.
