The Strasburg Moose will sponsor a chicken barbecue Saturday. Chicken will be available starting at 10 a.m. at the BB&T in Strasburg. Proceeds will benefit the FCCLA team from Signal Knob Middle School as they prepare for the National Convention in San Diego. Chicken prepared by Chris Ashwood and Dennis Ryman.
Spotlight on Women
The Front Royal Women’s Resource Center will hold its annual Spotlight on Women program 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the Parish Hall at Calvary Episcopal Church. The honoree will be Lillian Sloane, a teacher, hospital volunteer and member of many community organizations. Theme for the event will be “Hats Off to Mrs. Sloane” and attendees are encouraged to wear hats. Refreshments will be served.
The Women’s Memorial Society will hold their 149th memorial service at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in New Market. The service will include special music, readings and laying of a memorial wreath. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at Reformation Church. First Baptist Church, Washington will celebrate the second anniversary of Pastor Rev. James M. and First Lady Janice Kilby during special services Sunday. A morning anniversary service will be held at 11 a.m. with an afternoon service at 3 p.m. Special guest speaker will be the Rev. Harrison Williams from Shiloh Baptist Church in Standardsville. Lunch will be served following the morning service.
St. John’s UCC
St. John’s United Church of Christ in Toms Brook will celebrate their 195th homecoming at 11 a.m. Sunday. There will be special music throughout the service and a luncheon will follow.
Fairview United Methodist Church on Double Church Road will hold a 155th celebration during a special worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. There will be displays both inside and outside at the church. A covered dish dinner will follow at noon.
The Woodstock Volunteer Rescue Squad is conducting its Photo Fund Drive. As a thank you, everyone that contributes will receive a free professional family portrait, which will be taken at the station 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. No appointment is necessary and pets are welcome.
Conicville VFD dinner
The Conicville Volunteer Fire Department will hold a country ham pot pie dinner 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday. Dine in is a free will offering. Takeouts are $12 per plate or $6 per quart.
