Confederate service

Turner Ashby 184 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will hold a Confederate Memorial Day service at 7 p.m. Monday in the Stonewall Cemetery located within the Mt. Hebron Cemetery.

Guest speaker will be Richard M. McMurry, who has authored more than 100 articles on the Civil War.

Alfred “Bud” Robertson of Gore will be presented with the United Daughters of the Confederacy National Defense Medal.


Mount Olive Baptist

Mount Olive Baptist Church in Middletown will hold a prayer and Bible study at 7 p.m. Thursday. Information: 540-667-7081.
Teen poster contest

Friday is the deadline to submit a poster for a teen poster contest sponsored by the New Market Area Library as part of its summer reading program, which kicks off June 16.

The theme is “Read for the Win.”

Red Cross classes

The American Red Cross will hold a community-based first aid CPR/AED program from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 11 at the Warren County Community Center.

The class will help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. Cost is $90 per participant.
