Rosie Randolph, a 12th-grade student at Portsmouth (Rhode Island) Abbey School, has been awarded the Jefferson Scholarship by the University of Virginia.
Out of 1,800 students nominated for the scholarship, she is one of 34 recipients who took part in a five-day competition at UVA that included seminar discussions, essay and mathematics examinations and interviews by alumni and faculty.
As the 2012-13 Diman Scholar at Portsmouth Abbey, she was selected from a competitive field of applicants to receive a full, four-year scholarship to the Abbey. She was a gold medal winner in the Latin IV poetry section of the National Latin Exam, was named a Commended Student in 2016 by the National Merit Scholarship Program, was a member of the Model UN and received a national award for outstanding musicianship at the Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival.
She plans to attend UVA in the fall. She is the daughter of Laura and Mike Randolph, of Front Royal.
Christopher Mumaw graduated from Roanoke College on May 7 with a bachelor’s degree in religious studies. He is the son of Melissa Mumaw, of Strasburg, and the late Bill Mumaw.
E. French Price graduated with highest honors with a degree in agribusiness from Virginia Tech on May 13. She is employed with the Rockingham County Cooperative Extension in Harrisonburg. French is the daughter of Al and Christina Price and granddaughter of Marian B. French and Orville A. Price, all of Woodstock.
A yard sale is planned from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Relief United Methodist Church, 5275 Middle Road, Winchester.
This is a benefit for the steeple fund and will be held rain or shine. Breakfast and lunch available.
Indoor yard sale
The Front Royal United Methodist Women will hold an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 pm. Saturday at the church.
Items include household and yard items, small appliances, children’s clothing and more. Proceeds benefit missions projects.
