Weekend Events

The following are some of the area events that will be held this weekend:

Freedom Festival
The Virginia Freedom Festival will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Warren County Fairgrounds, 26 Fairground Road, Front Royal.

The festival will celebrate, honor and benefit troops through the VFW Post 1860, Disabled American Veterans, Fisher House, Able Forces and Habitat for Heroes.

Featured will be Richard Parker as Elvis, Woody James from Nashville, Larry Gatlin, Jimmy Fortune, Lisa Meadows, Scythian, Jackpot, Danny Figgins, the Martin Family Circus, food, crafts, car show, beer garden, face painting, balloon animals and playground equipment for the kids to play on.

BryceFest
An all-day family festival plus fireworks will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Bryce Resort in Basye.
Featured will be children’s activities, entertainment, fire truck rides, pony rides, mountain tubing, zipline, magic show, live bands, arts and crafts, food and fireworks at dusk from the ski slopes. Information: 856-2121.

First Friday
The Hatcher Boys will perform at the First Friday concert from 7 to 10 p.m. today at Bowman Shannon Cultural Arts Center in Mount Jackson. Grilled hotdogs will be available. Food donations appreciated for the food table. Information: 477-4131 or www.theartgroup.org.

‘Sweeney Todd’
Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre will present “Sweeney Todd” at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 1460 University Drive, Winchester.

Future performances will be held July 6-10. Tickets range from $15 to $30. Information: 540-665-4569.

Gazebo Gatherings

The American Legion Community Band will perform at 7 p.m. today at the Gazebo on Village Commons in Front Royal.

Quilt show
The Art Group Gallery in the Bowman Shannon Cultural Arts Center in Mount Jackson will host a quilt show during July.

The show, featuring locally made quilts by members of the Shenandoah Valley Quilters Guild, is open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday. Information: www.theartgroup.org.

Bluemont Concert Series
Harmonious Wail, a gypsy jazz and swing group, will perform at the Bluemont Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. today at the old Frederick County Courthouse, 20 N. Loudoun St., Winchester.

Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont Friends and senior citizens and $2 for children under 12. Information: 540-338-4640. In case of bad weather the concert will be moved to the First Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Loudoun St.

Bluegrass, barbecue
The bluegrass group Mile Twelve will perform at 8 p.m. today at the Barns of Rose Hill, 95 Chalmers Court, Berryville.

Barbecue dinners will be sold from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door or free for children 12 and younger. Information: 540-955-2004 or www.barnsofrosehill.org.

Art auction
An art auction featuring works from “Images of Place and Grace” will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Barns of Rose Hill, 95 Chalmers Court, Berryville.The exhibit, presented by Picture Farmer Films, features plein air paintings created by local artists on the grounds of Holy Cross Abbey. Patrons may enter silent bids on pieces up until the auction.

Bright Box
Souled Out will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Bright Box Theater, 15 N. Loudoun St., Winchester.

Performing Arts Luray

Thundergun will perform on Monday at the Party on the Plaza sponsored by the Performing Arts Center of Luray from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Plaza in downtown Luray.
