Concert series to benefit schools, art programs

Come out to the Old Frederick County Courthouse, and bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic food, for an evening of live entertainment each Friday.

The Bluemont Concert Series has lined up four more July musical performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday nights at 20 N. Loudoun St., Winchester.

Joanna Schilling, marketing coordinator for Bluemont, said the concert series has been taking place in Winchester since 1979, just a few years after Bluemont was established in 1976.

“Bluemont Concerts provide high quality, family-friendly, affordable entertainment that gives locals the opportunity to enjoy great music and support arts in the Winchester area and in communities across the state,” she said.

She added that the music performers Bluemont selects must provide a mix of musical styles.

“Bluemont’s goal when selecting artists is to schedule world class entertainers that provide a wide mix of musical styles. Beyond one genre of music, the lineup is designed to give the Winchester community access to musical acts that they may not be able to enjoy otherwise,” she said.

“For example, this year, musical acts include a Caribbean steel drum band, gypsy jazz, traditional Celtic music, R&B, bluegrass, a brass ensemble and more,” she added.

Bluemont partners with local organizations and nonprofits to supply refreshments at each concert, Schilling said. Each concert features a different organization that provide baked goods and beverages as a fundraiser.

Proceeds from these concerts support arts programming in Winchester schools, she said.
