Night of entertainment planned for Old Town

Old Town Winchester’s second Friday Night Live event of the summer from 5 to 11 p.m. today will feature musician Robbie Limon at the Taylor Pavilion.

Dario Savarese, event coordinator for Old Town Winchester through Full Circle Marketing, said the event will also coincide with this week’s Bluemont Concert Series performance.

Now in its fourth year, Friday Night Live continues to grow in popularity, Savarese said.

“They continue to be very well-received among the restaurants and retailers and the folks in Winchester and the people who are touring here,” he said. “They definitely enjoy the Old Town Walking Mall and the entertainment.”

Live music will begin at the Taylor Pavilion at 5:30 p.m. with a Patsy Cline tribute by Liz Ruffner. At 7:30 p.m., the Bluemont Concert Series will feature the Mary Ann Redmond Band on the Old Courthouse Lawn.  The Robbie Limon Band will perform at 8:15 p.m.

“We’ve got a nice variety of things stretching up and down the walking mall,” Savarese said.

Other acoustic musicians and street performers will also be present throughout the event along the Loudoun Street Pedestrian Mall at no cost. Magicians, jugglers, caricature artists, a stilt walker dressed as a rocker, and a photobooth will be available for concertgoers entertainment.

Locally made arts and crafts will also be available for purchase through the Shenandoah Arts Council and Winchester Art Market.

A variety of beer and wine for those over 21 years of age will be for sale at the Taylor Pavilion. Proceeds will benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Virginia.

If the weather is nice, a crowd of 2,000 to 3,000 people can be expected at the event, Savarese said.

“It’s a Friday evening and people are socializing; they’re talking to folks, they’re meeting friends and family, they’re having dinner, and kids can take part in some of the fun activities.”
