Free, live entertainment in Woodstock

The Town of Woodstock will be hosting two outdoor concerts at W.O. Riley Park in Woodstock this month. The first concert is tonight. Food will be available for purchase beginning at 6 p.m., and music will go from 7 to 9 p.m.

The second concert in the Woodstock Riley Outdoor Concert Series will be held on July 22.

Katie Mercer, enhancement coordinator with Woodstock’s Enhancement Committee, said the town has been hosting these events since 2000.

“It’s a community building event,” she said. “It brings friends and families together for a free event that offers an evening at the park with food, music, fun and camaraderie,” she said.

“The idea started when my visionary predecessor, Jane Beasley, and volunteers of the enhancement committee wanted to create a fun, summer event that brought people to downtown Woodstock,” she said.

The event was originally named Lunch on the Lawn with a noon event and then transformed into Music on Main in the evenings. The events were held behind the white gazebo adjacent to Main Street.

“The attendance kept growing but when the lot was sold we had to relocate, which helped to support the eventual building of the event lawn and stage at W.O. Riley Park and then the new name, Woodstock ROCS, was born,” she added.

Mercer said that Strasburg band Clay Arthur and The Mystic Pistols will provide live entertainment Friday with food from Frank’s Bar B Q and Virginia Smashers.

Buds Collective, from the Front Royal, Winchester and the West Virginia area, will perform on July 22 with food from 1752 Barbecue and a dessert vendor.
