Pet of the Week: Calm Daisy just wants to snuggle
WINCHESTER – Daisy, a 7-year-old yellow Labrador mix, is looking for a new owner to snuggle with.
Daisy, a spayed female who is on ear medication, is a large dog, but her temperament is that of one much smaller, according to kennel attendant Sam Volpini of the Winchester SPCA.
Volpini said Daisy is not afraid to nuzzle up to people and show them some love, but she is not a big fan of other dogs or children.
She has lived at the Winchester SPCA on Featherbed Lane for about a month. Her owners were forced to surrender her as the result of a move. She was adopted after her surrender but was again returned because of her interaction with children.
“She came in as an owner surrender, and they said she got along with everybody,” Volpini said. “Then we got her adopted and they brought her back and they said she’s not good with kids and she’s not very good with little dogs. I don’t know about bigger dogs, but her previous household had a little dog that she didn’t like.”
Her behavior as far as cats are concerned is unknown.
She’s a really calm dog and she’s a snuggler, and she likes the pool,” Volpini said. “That’s about as active as she gets … I love her. She’s really sweet. She’s definitely the easiest to walk, the easiest to get out of the kennel. She’s so sweet. Her first owners that brought her in definitely loved her and took care of her.”
While she has some toys in her kennel, she’s not a particularly playful dog. Aside from picking up the occasional toy and trying to bring it on walks, Volpini said that Daisy is more of a relaxed, dignified lady. She loves lounging in the kiddie pool the staff sets up for the dogs, and is one of the only dogs there who uses it.
