An emergency preparedness for Avian influenza fit test clinic will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the New Market Fire Hall.
Anyone wishing to be fit tested will need to complete a medical clearance form with their doctor in advance. Information, paperwork needed: Shenandoah County Extension office at 459-6140.
Student attends convention
Brier Clough, president of the National Junior Classical League, served as the leader of general assemblies at the group’s summer convention held July 25-30 at Indiana University. The theme was the Roman proverb ubi Concordia, ibi Victoria, meaning “Where there is unity, there is victory.”
The league is a professional society of Latin and Greek scholars.
Clough, a May graduate of Wakefield Country Day School in Flint Hill, plans to move up to the National Senior Classical League next year while attending her first year at the University of Richmond.
The Jones family reunion will be held from 5 p.m. today through Sunday at the Conicville carnival grounds.
Those attending on Saturday are asked to bring a covered dish for dinner at 5 p.m. Other activities include bluegrass music, horseshoes, corn hole and more. The reunion will be held rain or shine.
The New Market Library is holding a book sale through Sunday. Books are organized by category and sales are by donation. Funds will be used to purchase library materials.
Oak Level United Methodist Church in Fort Valley has canceled its ice cream social planned for Saturday.
Two Strasburg artists will display and perform their work at the Blue Ridge Arts Council, 305 E. Main St., Front Royal.
An exhibit of abstract acrylics and watercolors by Ren Crawford will be on display starting Saturday.
Rich Follett will perform music from his new CD, “Somewhere in the Stars,” from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 26.

The Riffee Ryman family will hold a reunion at 1 p.m. Saturday at the John Whittington shop on Dysart Road in Woodstock. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish. Paper products and drinks will be provided.
