Live entertainment continues in Woodstock

Three more outdoor Woodstock musical events with live entertainment from regional bands are scheduled this summer.

Katie Mercer, enhancement coordinator for the Woodstock Enhancement Committee, said about 300 to 400 people attended the Woodstock Riley Outdoor Concert Series performances in July.

She said they hope to see more people attend over the next few months, but noted that attendance typically doesn’t change because of the concert date.

“One of the major factors in attendance is the band performing,” she said. “If the public isn’t familiar they seem to be less likely to attend, so we’ve now balanced the tried and true local performers with groups that aren’t as well known in the country.”

“We want to help the community learn and appreciate new acts as well as enjoy those they may have seen 10 times,” she added.

In August, the event will also hold a Kids ROCS event on Aug. 20.

“It will feature a very interactive, energetic and talented children’s musician, Leroy Hyson. He will have many, if not all, kids participating by dancing, laughing, clapping, and jumping,” she said. “It’s a great way for kids to express themselves and have some fun.”

Free snacks and drinks will be provided to the kids as well during this event.

During one of the music events last year, people in attendance were asked to decorate and write cards to soldiers who were serving during the upcoming holidays. Massanutten Military Academy also presented arms to kick off the event.

“It was a great tribute to current and past military service people and emergency responders,” Mercer said.

She added that they hope to replicate this event during their upcomign Sept. 9 performance.

The events, with the exception of the Kids ROCS, will be held at the W.O. Riley Park event lawn and stage area. Food will be available for purchase beginning at 6 p.m. with music starting at 7 p.m.

The Kids ROCS event will begin at 9 a.m. at the W.O. Riley Park event space.
