AKC dog show
Over 1,700 dogs will be competing for the coveted Best in Show trophy at the American Kennel Club dog show from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday at Long Branch Plantation in Millwood.
AKC breeders will be on hand to answer questions about training, grooming and recommending the perfect companion for your lifestyle. Admission is $5 per car.

Pork dinner
The Strasburg FFA will hold a pork tenderloin dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday in the agriculture department.
The cost is $13 for adults and $8 for children. Dine in or carry out. Meal reservations can be made by calling 465-3875.

Walnut Springs Christian Church will host bingo from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at 1905 Oranda Road, Strasburg, to benefit the Oranda School House.
The cost is 25 cents per card. Food will also be available starting at 5:30 p.m.

Senior driving course
Oct. 3 is the deadline to register for an AARP Smart Driver safety course for seniors 50 and older sponsored by Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12.
The course will teach defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and more to safely adjust to the road with age-related changes.
The cost is $15 for AARP members or $20 for nonmembers. There is also a $5 Parks/Rec fee, which is paid separately. Information: 459-6777.
