Celebrate fall at Autumnfest

More than 1,500 are expected to attend the sixth annual Autumnfest from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds, said Dawn Funkhouser, vice president of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce.

New this year will be local craft breweries along with tried-and-true crowd favorites, she said.

Contests will include the Kansas City BBQ contest, People’s Choice BBQ contest and a log-slitting contest. More than 30 teams are expected to participate in the barbecue contests.

Nine local breweries and two local wineries will be on tap for the festival: Woodstock Brewhouse, Swover Creek, HeavySeas, Hardywood, Legend, Bold Rock, Chaos Mountain Brewing, 3-Notch’d and Cobbler Cider. Wineries at the event will be Hunts and North Mountain. Filibuster Whiskey and Long Ridge Cigars will also be present.

Local craft vendors will display their work, and a massage therapist will be on hand to relieve aches and pains.

A live band, Justice, will keep the beat going and the tune festive throughout the day.

Tickets are $7 for general admission, $15 for admission with five craft beer tastings, $20 for admission with 10 beer tastings. Children younger than 16 get in free.

Prior to the start of Autumnfest, a 5K Run/Walk will take place at 10 a.m. beginning at Fairview Park and continuing along the back roads of Woodstock.
