The Reliance United Methodist Church Men will host a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at 1571 Reliance Road, Front Royal.
Cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children 6-12 and free for children under 5.
The Shenandoah County Extension Master Gardeners will answer home horticulture questions from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the South Street Barn Market in the American Legion parking lot in Woodstock. Information: 459-6140.
The Front Royal Women’s Resource Center will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Weichert Realtors, 824 John Marshall Highway, Front Royal.

The Strasburg High School FFA will hold a bake sale starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at First Bank in Strasburg. Proceeds will benefit students attending the national FFA convention.
The Church of the Rock in Front Royal will host a dinner fundraising booth on Saturday at the Festival of Leaves on Main Street in Front Royal.

A candidates forum for those running in the Winchester mayoral race and the Virginia 10th District House of Representatives race will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Handley Library.
Each candidate will make a five-minute introduction followed by a 10 minute statement on the issues of their choice. No audience questions will be allowed.
The non-partisan forum is sponsored by the Winchester chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Friends of Handley Regional Library. Information: Barbara Dickinson at 540-662-9041, ext. 31.
‘Meet a Firefighter’
Handley Library, in partnership with the Winchester Fire and Rescue Department, will host “Meet a Firefighter” at 11 a.m. Saturday as part of Fire Prevention Week. Children will listen to stories, meet firefighters and try on pretend firefighter turnout gear.
Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will host an Aspiring Artists program from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday for ages 7 to 11.
Participants will learn super-duper colored pencil techniques and create still life’s. Registration, information: 540-635-3153.
Orkney Springs Fire and Rescue will hold a country ham potpie dinner starting at 3 p.m. Saturday at 3821 Orkney Grade, Basye.
Carryouts will be available for ham sandwiches and potpie quarts and dinners. A free-will offering will be accepted.
Blessing of animals
St. John’s Lutheran Church will hold a Blessing of the Animals service at 3 p.m. Saturday at 3623 Back Mountain Road, Winchester.
Pets should be leashed or in carrying cases. Donations will be accepted for the local animal shelter. Those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
First aid class
Oct. 11 is the deadline to register for a combined basic first aid and CPR/AED class from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Shenandoah County Government Center in Woodstock.
The class is open to ages 18 and older. Participants will test and receive certification upon completion. The cost is $45. Information, registration: 459-6777.
The PromisedLand Quartet, Ernie Haase and Signature Sound will give a concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at Restoration Fellowship Church, 2128 John Marshall Highway, Strasburg.

The Warren County Fire & Rescue Department is partnering with the American Red Cross for a “10 A Day Smoke Alarm Campaign” in observance of Fire Safety Month. The theme this year is “Don’t Wait, Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years.”
