Enjoy local food, wines at Taste of Shenandoah

Sample fresh local cuisine, brews and wines on Saturday at the 2016 Taste of Shenandoah.

Presented by Shenandoah Forum and Cave Ridge Vineyard, the event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Cave Ridge Vineyard in Mount Jackson and include 18 food, wine, beer and cider offerings.

Now in its seventh year, the event saw a format update last year, said event coordinator Vicki Ruckman.

“The public should attend to learn how wines, ciders and beers enhance foods and vice versa,” she said. “They can taste dishes made by local producers and buy the beverage, meat, cheese, bread, etc. to take home with them and reproduce their experience.”

The brews and wines will be provided by Cave Ridge Vineyard, Old Hill Cider, Swover Creek Farm Brewery and Woodstock Brewhouse.

Food from local producers will include fruits, vegetables, cheese, meats and breads.

Local vendors planning to attend are Baker Farms, Country Rhodes Farm, Fairview Oaks Farm, Henry’s Hot Sauce, J&L Green Farm, J&W Farm, Mainstreet Farmstead Cheese, Penelope’s Café Gallery, Purple Rooster Organics, Shenandoah Spice Co., Swover Creek Farms, Terry the Cookie Man, Wholesome Foods, and Woodbine Farm Market.

Ruckman said attendees can “enjoy their favorite beverage and gorgeous views from the Cave Ridge courtyard.”

Local musicians will provide music throughout the day.

Ticket sales are limited to 300, Ruckman said. Last year they sold 272 tickets. Based on current online sales, she expects they’ll sell out this year.
