Sixth Congressional District Candidate Kai Degner will be available for a meet-and-greet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at Pot Town Organics in Strasburg.
Mountain View United Methodist Church will hold a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Back Creek Ruritan building at 139 Richards Ave., Mt. Falls. A free-will offering will be accepted to benefit the women’s and men’s groups.
Asbury United Methodist Church on Stonewall Jackson Highway south of Front Royal will hold a fall turkey dinner with all the fixings at 4 p.m. Saturday. A free-will offering will be accepted.
Members of the James Wood High School class of 1991 will hold a reunion from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Brewbakers Restaurant in Winchester. The cost is $45 per person.

Samuels Library in Front Royal will hold the following programs on Saturday:
• Books and Barks: 10:10 a.m., for developing readers to read with a trained therapy dog.
• Discuss This: 2 p.m., for ages 12 to 19 who are inspired by books, movies and art. Refreshments provided.
American Legion Post 166 in New Market will host a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Sunday to honor past and present veterans. Light refreshments served.
Nov. 9 is the deadline to register for the Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation class on beaded necklaces from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the county Government Center in Woodstock for people 16 and older.
The cost is $49 and includes all materials. Information, registration: 459-6777.
Nov. 10 is the deadline to enter the holiday writing contest sponsored by Samuels Public Library and Royal Oak Bookshop in Front Royal for children in kindergarten through the 12th grade.
Students may submit short stories or poems. Simple illustrations may accompany the work. A student may also submit a thematic holiday drawing, which may be selected as artwork for the Holiday Writing Contest book of winning entries.
First-place winners in each grade will receive a gift certificate from Royal Oak Bookshop.
