Toys for Tots taking donations
Toys for Tots is looking for donations to make the holiday season a little brighter for children in need throughout our region.
James Wolfe, the local coordinator of the Toys for Tots chapter that serves Shenandoah, Warren, Frederick, Clarke and Page counties, said they distributed over 20,000 toys to almost 4,000 children in these counties.
“We can never collect an excess number of toys,” he said. “It seems as though every year the number of children requiring aid increases and the donations decrease.”
Each child on the donation list will receive one large toy, one medium toy and one small toy, he added, along with several stocking stuffers and a book or game.
He said that last year 15 boxes were transported to Massanutten Military Academy for distribution in the Woodstock and Edinburg area, 21 boxes were sent to the Strasburg Rotary Club for distribution in the Strasburg area, 10 boxes went to the Clarke County Lions Club for their distribution area and the Page County High School Honor Society distributed boxes in Page County. These locations will house the donation boxes again this year.
A list of locations where donation boxes are located in Frederick County and Winchester can be found at www.toysfortots.org.

Wolfe added, “This year in order to avoid over-taxing Toys for Tots we are requiring birth certificates or ID including child’s name and date of birth for each child on the application.”
The Toys for Tots campaign was started by the U.S. Marines in 1947 and gives toys to children throughout all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.
