Naturalist program
The State Arboretum at Blandy Farm in Boyce will begin its Young Naturalist Program on Saturday featuring environmental educators and master naturalists helping kids explore the natural world through hands-on activities, close observations, games and crafts.
Classes will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for children in grades 1-3 and 12:30 to 3 p.m. for grades 4-6. Future classes will be held on Jan. 28, Feb. 11 and 25 and March 11, each with a different topic.

The Edinburg Fire Company will hold a fried chicken dinner starting at 11 a.m. Sunday. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension office in Woodstock will hold a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday about its upcoming master gardener class.

Training class sessions run on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Feb. 14 through May 18. The tuition is $225, which includes a handbook and other materials. Coursework includes plant propagation, soils and fertilizers, botany, plant identification and pathology, invasive plants and native substitutes, water awareness, insects, pest management, pruning, lawns, annuals and perennials, trees and shrubs, fruits and berries, vegetables and more.
