Weekend Events: March 10

The following are some of the area events that will be held this weekend:

School play
The Maroon Masque’s, Warren County High School’s Theater Department, will present four performances of William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” this weekend.
Performances will be at 6:30 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students. Seating is limited. Ticket reservations: Chris Whitney at schitney@wcps.k12.va.us.

Arts Council
Guitarist Tim O’Brien will perform at 8 p.m. today as part of the Arts Council of the Valley’s events at Court Square Theater in Harrisonburg.

Arts Council

The Blue Ridge Arts Council will celebrate Youth Arts Month with an exhibit featuring works by students in kindergarten through 12th grade at 305 E. Main St., Front Royal.

Winterfest
Bryce Resort in Basye will hold its annual Winterfest Celebration on Saturday. There will be a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Fireside Grill, a polar plunge at 9 a.m. at the Pump House on Fairway Drive, costume parade slope-side at 11 a.m., pond skimming at 2 p.m. and live music by DJ Ethan. ‘Brigadoon’
As part of the St. Paddy’s Celtic Fest, The Magic Lantern Theater will host a screening of “Brigadoon” (G-rated), the 1954 musical starring Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Handley Library in Winchester. Information: 540-678-0963 or www.magiclanterntheater.org.

Coin show
The Winchester Coin Club will hold a coin show from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Saturday in the Stonewall Ruritan building at the Frederick County Fairgrounds in Clearbrook. Free admission and parking. Information: Doug or Ginny at 465-3952.

Signs of Spring
The state Arboretum at Blandy Farm in Boyce will hold a young naturalist program on the “signs of spring” on Saturday at the Parkfield Learning Center.

Programs will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for kids in grades 1-3 and 12:30 to 3 p.m. for grades 4-6. Sessions are $25 or $20 for FOSA members. Information: 540-837-1758, ext. 287 or www.blandy.virginia.edu.

Train show
The Winchester Model Railroad Club will hold its annual spring train show and sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Winchester Moose Lodge, 215 E. Cork St., Winchester. A train layout will also be on display at 430 N. Cameron St., Winchester. Information: www.wmrrc.org.

Mystery
The Winchester Little Theatre will present “Absolutely Dead,” a first-place winner at the 2012 International Mystery Writers Festival, at 8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m.  Sunday. Tickets: 540-662-3331 or Valerie O’Keefe at 540-336-2357 or www.wltonline.org.

Capitol Steps
Capitol Steps, a Washington, D.C.-based comedy troupe that began as a group of Senate staffers, will perform songs from their current album “What To Expect When You’re Electing” at 3:17 p.m. Sunday at John Handley High School’s Patsy Cline Theatre.

Bright Box Theater has announced the following shows being held this weekend at 15 N. Loudoun St., Winchester:
• Today: 8 p.m., Hackensaw Boys with Herb & Hanson. Tickets: $15.
• Saturday: Celtic Festival featuring Capital Celtic 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Irish Step Dancers 2-2:15 p.m. and Low Water Bridge 8-10 p.m. Free admission.
• Saturday: 10 p.m., DIVAS Drag Show. Tickets: $20.

PAL
Each year, area writers, directors and actors descend upon Performing Arts Luray and will develop one-act plays from scratch starting today for a 24-hour theater.

On Saturday morning they will assemble to refine, rehearse and get ready to perform at 7 p.m. that evening.
